Are there enough titles available to make CD-ROM worthwhile?
Hundreds of titles already exist for a wide variety of disciplines and the list is growing every day. Apple is working closely with third-party developers to ensure the broadest possible range of titles. See the CD-ROM Titles flyer included on this disc for a sample of what is available.
What about using CD-ROM after graduation?
A CD-ROM drive will hardly go unused after graduation. As we just discussed, the list of titles is constantly growing and that includes titles for business, medicine, music, art, graphics, biology and the environment, just to name a few.
What are the benefits of the AppleCD™ 300?
The AppleCD 300 is a high performance unit that spins at twice the speed of ordinary CD-ROM drives. The faster spin speed provides faster access to information, plus it means smoother playback of QuickTime™ movies and animation. The AppleCD 300 is also far more versatile. It can read the new multi-session Kodak Photo CD™ discs which convert film, negatives or slides into high quality CD images. The AppleCD 300i is an optional built-in feature on both the Apple® Macintosh® Centris™ 610 and the Macintosh Centris 650.
Will faculty and staff have any use for CD-ROM?
Absolutely. For all the reasons already mentioned, presentations and lectures can be made far more interesting, as well as informative. And the immediate access to a tremendous amount of information can save a lot of time on research and publishing.
Which Apple Macintosh computers are compatible with the AppleCD 300?
Any Macintosh computer can connect to an Apple CD-ROM drive, although the multimedia aspects of CD-ROM will have more impact on a Macintosh computer with a color monitor.
How affordable is CD-ROM technology, especially for students?
For what CD-ROM can offer, the cost is quite reasonable. Resistance to price can be countered with the benefits of CD-ROM, the future use for the technology (in other words, amortize the cost over more than just four or five years of college), the Apple Computer Loan, and the special campus prices you can offer.
What materials can I use to help sell CD-ROM?
On this disc you’ll find a CD-ROM benefits flyer, as well as a select list of CD-ROM titles you can print out and distribute. Many of you will also receive a printed piece containing both benefits and titles. (Note: Two CD-ROM discs will be given away with the purchase of a qualifying Apple Macintosh computer during Apple’s Back-To-School ’93 Promotion. And customers get more free CD-ROM discs when they purchase a Macintosh Centris 610 or Macintosh Centris 650 with a built-in CD-ROM drive. Use them as a “point of entry” to talk with your customers about the advantages of CD-ROM.)
How can I best demonstrate CD-ROM?
If you have the ability to set up a demonstration station, use either a Macintosh computer with an internal CD-ROM drive or a Macintosh computer attached to an external CD-ROM to demonstrate the most interesting interactive CD-ROM discs. And be sure to show them what they get on their two free CD-ROM discs.
